Well written and very informative. My wife read Uncle Tom's Cabin on her own. I started but never finished. It was not required reading at any school I attended. Any Mark Twain books should be read, Treasure Island, To Kill A Mocking Bird, Gulliver's Travels, and the Watson's go to Birmingham are the only ones that come to mind at this time; but there are plenty more out there.
Thank you for reading and commenting, sir. And I’m adding your literature suggestion of the Watsons to my list—the others are already on it! My child read Gulliver’s in its entirety earlier this year, and I was struck by just how relevant it is today—because human nature is a constant throughout history. GT shows that men in power in the 1700s had the exact same inclinations that they do today. And the people under them have the same reactions to any sort of overreach.
